According to breastcancer.org, one in eight women (about 12.4%) will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime and over 40,000 women in the U.S. are expected to die in 2018 from the disease. And the CDC reports that breast cancer is the most common cancer in women, no matter race or ethnicity.
Almost all of us have been touched by breast cancer in some way, shape, or form. Our founder's wife's mother died from it much too young. I lost an aunt to it eight years ago. In fact, I polled our small staff of PRxers and only one person out of 11 was able to say their life or someone they know hadn't been been affected by breast cancer.
Breast Cancer awareness and helping those battling it is a core mission here at PRx so for the second year in a row, we've teamed up with Pink it Forward! Pink it Forward is a charity based in North Dakota that services those in need nationwide. Their mission is to empower those currently impacted by breast cancer by sending care packages filled with the little things that only those who have gone through it themselves recommend. Thoughtful items that are practical and useful. When you hear someone is going through treatment or has been diagnosed, you want to help. A card is nice. So are flowers. But what about a care package filled with really useful and meaningful items? That is the void that Pink it Forward is trying to fill.
To help them with their mission, we arranged to spend an afternoon building care packages to get them stocked up. But they didn't account for our warehouse crew's competitive spirit. The Pink if Forward folks brought what they thought was enough supplies to last a couple of hours. Nope. We built over 300 boxes in about 45 minutes! Turns out, everything is a race.
We ran a promotion earlier this month to raise awareness about breast cancer and further the cause of Pink it Forward. We offered a free gift with every purchase over $500 where people got to choose between a set of pink Talons (our new barbell collar) or a Pumped in Pink Blender Bottle* and we'll be giving a portion of the proceeds to Pink it Forward at the end of this month!
