Restructuring the CrossFit Games.

The Morning Chalk Up released a mind-boggling article on Greg Glassman's vision to restructure the CrossFit Games starting after the Games in 2019.

https://morningchalkup.com/2018/08/23/how-greg-glassman-is-reshaping-the-crossfit-games/

What we have known the CrossFit Games to be for so long will take a turn in the 2019 season.

According to Greg Glassman, CrossFit is transitioning more towards the culture of weight loss transformations and success stories of their affiliate members, and away from the 0.01% athletes who actually qualify for the CrossFit Games.

Keeping up with the rapid growth and challenges of renting venues, paying media teams, and organizing events prior to the Games has also contributed to the shift in vision for Glassman and CrossFit.

*With this vision in mind, there will be some major changes in the 2019 CrossFit Games schedule:

  • The Open will be held in October
  • Every country with an active CrossFit Affiliate will be crowning the Fittest in Country through a 5-week Open. The top-placing Male, Female, and team will receive an invitation to the CrossFit Games.
  • Regionals is no more. The Invitational is no more.
  • There will be 16 sanctioned events that CrossFit will partner with from November through June. The winner of each event (male, female, and team) will receive an invitation to the CrossFit Games.
  • Age-group qualifiers and divisions are still to be determined.

The new CrossFit Games you will come to know:

  • There will now be a representative at the CrossFit Games from each of the 162 countries, as well as a dozen or so more receiving invitations from the sanctioned events. This drastically increases the field of competition and sounds like more of an Olympic-style format.
